The way Add/remove Windows components works is if an item is checked, Windows has detected that it is already installed. If you want to remove something that is installed, uncheck it. If you want to install something that is not installed (and therefore shows a blank box), check it.

So, when you say you say

'then went to "Add/Remove Windows Components." A lot of the boxes were checked for programs, so I unchecked them all, except MSN Explorer and clicked "OK."'

if that is what you did, you actually uninstalled all the ones you unchecked, but left MSN Explorer installed. You should have done it the other way round if you just wanted to uninstall MSN Explorer.

You can get Paint and games back from Add/remove Windows components, check the boxes. Do the same for anything else you want that is showing an empty box and uncheck the boxes of things that are installed but that you don't want..

Wow, thank you so much! I was able to get back my Utilities like Paint and Games and such. I feel sort of dumb for doing that though (^_^;
Thank you again.

Though, I still have the same message pop up when I try to log onto MSN Explorer. Maybe it's becuase I started an e-mail account somewhere else? Any help!?

Thanks.

Had you tried to install an update, which is what the message in your first post says?  If so, the update should be listed in add/remove, I think (plain add/remove, not windows components). If it is there, try uninstalling and reinstalling.

If not, go to add/remove, windows components, if thec MSN Explorer box is checked, uncheck it to uninstall it; then go back, check it again to reinstall it.

The current version of MSN Explorer is also available for download at

http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

I suggest that you save the download to disk and install it from there (double click on the file)

Hmm, I'm not quite sure where the update for MSN Explorer is in Add/Remove Programs. I don't think it is in there, but I'm probably wrong.
If you mean like the "Windows Updates", for some reason I cannot access that page, or when it searches for updates, it says it could not complete becuase of an error or someting. It is like that for certain MSN pages, I cannot visit my Hotmail account, or registration pages for MSN, or Sign In pages and such for some reason >ARGH!

Well, I'm not sure if I should delete MSN Explorer and then reinstall it, becuase when I uncheck the box in "Add/Remove Windows Components" it says:

"Do you want to uninstall MSN Explorer?
Uninstalling MSN Explorer will not cancel your account with your Internet Service Provider. However, if you signed up for dial-up Internet access using MSN Explorer or upgraded an existing MSN dial-up account then you may no longer be able to connect the Internet after uninstalling."

>I'm worried, so should I go through with it.

By the way, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the help you have given, I truly appreciate it!

Hmm, well, I just deleted MSN Explorer through the "Add/Remove Windows Components". Then I reinstalled it via a disc that came with my comp. I run into the same exact problem though, with the message about the update. What should I do!?

YAY! I fixed my MSN problem; I can now access MSN Explorer, and my Hotmail account and such. I went to "Set Program Access and Defaults" on the start menu, and I enabled access to both Internet Explorer and MSN Explorer, as well as other things; it seemed rather simple after much frustration on my part.

However, Windows Updates does still not work, when I click "Update Now", it goes back to the same exact page. When I checked up on it, the troubleshooting page said they were still looking into the probelm, I don't think I'm advanced enough to follow their instructions though.
