Multiple Users

Hello:

I want to set up my step kids computer so that multiple users have access.  I have set it up so that everyone's user name shows when Windows loads.  I set temporary passwords for everyone as well.  I was hoping that by doing this each of the kids could keep there own files and settings and there by have some "privacy".  However when I log in to under my name and password, I can see one of the kids "My Documents" folders showing up along with mine in My Computer.  Is there a way to set this all up so that each users files, folders, settings, etc. can be viewed only by them?

Thanks (in advance) very much for the help. :smileyhappy:

I'm certainly no expert, but it sounds like the name that you have set-up for yourself is the Administrator account.

When you're signed into the Administrator account, you have access to all of the files and whatnot that all of the other users have saved under their own names.

The easiest way I can see to fix this is just to create a new name for yourself, and leave the Administrator name alone unless you need to log into it to change some settings around that only the Administrator can do.

I hope that made sense, and hopefully it helps you out.

Hi Denny,
I've been having a problem with limited users not being able to use functions of the printer (copy and scan) and also to update the antivirus. I read the MS article and I don't have a security tab listed. I went to View>Folder Options but there wasn't any "Use Simple File Sharing" listed for me to clear. I do have "Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folder list". Would unchecking that give me a security tab that I can configure? I have Windows XP Home with sp2.

Also, I went into safe mode and found the "security" tab and that listed "everybody" had permission for the printer - but they don't. The windows were too confusing for me to attempt to configure them.

Edit: The programs I am having a problem with is the Dell 920 all-in-one printer and EZTrust Antivirus. Both of these programs are in the All Users Program Files. I can only update the EZAv from the admin account, and to use copy and scan in a limited user account I have to change it to an admin - which isn't a good option.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra
