my computer blue-screened!!

So this morning I started up my computer (Inspiron e1505) and a blue screen appears that says something like physical memory dump. and I restarted it again and it said "stop...unmountable boot volume" and it keeps saying that when I tried to restart in safe mode too. Has this happened to anyone here and how can I fix this??

Is my hard drive seriously fried??

Well, the physical memory dump makes me think that the RAM might be dead / dying.

But when you say unmountable boot volume, that makes me think that more than just the RAM is dead / dying.

I would contact DELL A.S.A.P.

there are different reasons why you get a blue screen. try to get the stop error code under technical information to easily identify the type of blue screen you are having. if you are getting an unmountable boot volume msg the possible areas of failure could be your hard drive or your operating system's boot sector is corrupted.
the best thing to do is run a diagnostics on the hard drive first. Run the PSA-diags try to power off your system, while it's off press & hold the 'Fn' key on the keyboard then press the power button once it's on, release them all together. if the PSA diags generates an error code contact technical support to help you interpret the error code. if it passess you will have to run a chkdsk/r by booting to the recovery console using your windows xp operating system disc. this would most likely solve the problem.

try this link to know further about running a chkdsk/r on your system.

i hope that this will help you. :smileywink:

I had this happen and was told memory chip or chips need reinstall, loose or something .  It did work then but still does it from time to time on my C840 Latitude.

arrgh i tried everything y'all suggested but it still does it. I can't even get on into windows. So how would I go about reinstalling those chips? I don't know why it would be loose though. Could this be caused by a virus because before this happened, I had a virus on my computer but I ran spybot: search and destroy until it says that everything is cleared. and then that blue screen thing happened. I tried reinstalling windows but half way through, the blue screen comes up again! argh...

there are a lot of possible causes for this issue and viruses is one of them. like what i said this issue could be a hardware or a software failure. it is best for you to run diagnostic test for your hardware first & if it passes, you have to run a chkdsk/r for windows. if chkdsk is unable to repair it, your last resort is to format the hard drive & reinstall windows xp.  for a detailed step on how to reinstall windows you can just check on the link below.
