My Internet Options keep changing by itself

A weird thing has been going on with my Internet Options for the last couple weeks. I don't know for sure, but it may have started around the short period of time that my Virus protection software was expired (by short I mean like 20 mins). But anyway, in IE under Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections, for some reason it will automatically change my Choose Settings from "Never dial a connection" to "Dial whenever a network connection isn't present" (in fact, it just did it while I was typing). My internet ends up disconnecting and a dial-up window comes up. The problem I'd say is mainly inconvenient, but it does make it harder to reconnect sometimes. However, I am also worried they're might be some spyware or something that got onto my computer. I have IE7 by the way. Any suggestions? Is it possibly a memory issue? I've been meaning to upgrade from 512MB to 1GB ever since I got IE7, which has been taking up more memory and making my computer go slower.

Illjazz,

Download and install a good anti spyware program such as Spybot Search&Destroy from PepiMK software or AdAware from Lavasoft.  Update it, run it and let it clean everything that it finds.  I would bet that you will find some unfriendly software on your system.  You can download these programs from www.download.com and they are free for personal use.  If you want a good anti virus program, consider AntiVir or AVG which are both also availalbe on www.download.com.

I've used AdAware, but I have avast! for anti-virus software, and no luck. I was getting the "shut down" blue screen when I had AVG, and since I changed, I've never looked back to see if they fixed whatever bug it was. I don't think I've heard of Spybot, so let me try that. I was also considering running AdAware in Safe Mode, and try that, but that's always a little risky.

Does anybody else use avast! anti-virus software? Can you use that program while Windows is in Safe Mode?

I've been having this problem for years, on more then just one computer. I do not know the cause but I doubt very much it's virus related. I have both virus and spywear protection.

This setting also changes on my machine but I never have any issues with connecting or being disconnected.I did find this referring to advast possibly causing this. See this link. http://www.avast.com/eng/after_i_installed_av.html

The avast! suggestion didn't work, because it's still doing it. I haven't done the full scan yet, so I will probably be able to do that after the holiday. I also forgot to mention that I use SpywareBlaster too for spyware prevention.

I got help at the forum/link below, and it worked. Just in case there are others with a similar problem.
