My picture folder not responding or very slow
After opening my pictures, everything I try to do with them is very slow or doesn't open at all.
When closing out, it takes forever to do this. I have to end task most of the time and this too works sluggishly
When it does finally close, it starts closing at the top of the screen and moves down very slowly until gone. Then all my icons are gone from my desk top. They reappear after 10-20 seconds
Computer seems to work fine as long as I dont go to My Pictures
Thanks in advance

It sounds like your pictures folder has a either a large number of images or the images there are huge file size. Either way this could cause a problem. By default the pictures folder opens in the thumbnail view. Basically giving you little previews of each image. Obviously this could take a bit of time to open given the right combination of circumstances. The alternative is you have something in there that is corrupt or unreadable and in the middle of generating your thumbnail previews it chokes.
A way around this is to change the view while looking at a different folder then applying the current view settings to every folder, making them all the same. From the menu bar click view and then choose somethng other than thumbnails (details is nice). Then on the menu bar again click tools | folder options | choose the view tab | Click the "apply to all folders" button.

This didn't help. In fact, it took 15 seconds for the drop down box to drop down in order to change the view.
Can I re-install xp from the disk I got when I bought the computer.
Not sure how to do this either. Can I just insert disk and hope it installs whatever is missing or fix what is wrong?
Will I lose any files/folders if I do this?
More frustrated than ever

Yes, you can reinstall XP from the CD you received. Instructions are here. This will remove all the existing information on your C:\ partition.
You can also do a Repair Reinstall of XP using the instructions here. This will not disturb your data, but since you are not receiving any error messages it is not likely to correct the problem. It will also require you to reinstall all Windows updates you have applied since receiving the computer.

ya it sounds like u got a lot of stuff in your pictures folder. when u have a lot of things in one folder it takes longer for your hard drive to read them cuz i had the same problem with music.
If you re-install xp, it will delete everything on your hard drive and it takes a few hours. I would just put everything in pictures folder on a cd or back them up somehow and then delete most of the files. This should make the folder open faster.
