Hi Chris

I thought it does. Don't know why the website says not (and yet recommends it).

Thanks.

Hi
The Inspiron 1501 does not run in dual channel mode Dell was selling them
awhile back with just one stick of 512 mb of ram and
Vista 32 bit Home Basic i thought that was not right and did some checking
and it does not run in dual channel mode.
If you look at the manual it has nothing about DCM.
See Yea
Edit here is the link to the manual.

I think it is a AMD thing verses intel.

Hi C3PO5

Thanks for your help.

Still worth upgrading my RAM to 2MB I guess.

Not a lot else I can do.

Hi
It does not matter on 667 vers the 533 because
the 1501 is still stuck at 533 front side but the cpu
is not , it is the front side buss that is stuck at 533 .
It is another got you !
I read that some where too.

What you want is 2gb 667 mhz DDR2. I had a 1501 and it ran great. I didn't like the bios for the 1501 so I sold mine.

I now have E1505 and want to get the new 1520 with that slick nvidea 8600 video. Both are Core2 Duo.

I do not think it is possible to run any PC with shared memory in dual channel mode, even if the system supports it.

Dual channel the memory modules have to be installed in matched pairs of the same size. When the Video takes some memory they are no longer matched pairs.

Anyway Dual channel memory mode is not available on the Inspiron 1501. It runs well on 2 GB anyway or should I say 1.918 GB as it does share memory with the Video... :smileywink:

Shared memory has nothing to do with dual-channel, it's just that particular system doesn't support it. I run 3GB DDR2 PC5300 @ 667Mhz in dual-channel mode. That's what cpuz and my bios says.
Heres how my 3GB is allocated
total system memory: 3GB
total available graphics memory: 1535mb
dedicated graphics memory: 256mb
dedicated system memory: 0
shared system memory: 1279mb

you are correct about the matched pairs for dual-channel

Thanks for clearing that up... I was just speculating on that anyway... The 1501 doesn't and there we are.
