I would check msconfig for nasties starting to run when you boot up

Start/Run/ msconfig, keep the page open then go to link below.

 

http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html

 

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on “Here” at top. Use the Search box to check all your entries

 

If that does not help try

Spybot Search & Destroy    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html  
Get it to fix all the RED entries it finds 

 

Ad-aware SE   http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/#free
Get it to fix all it finds

Set the following to fix everything

Trojan Scan  http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/ 

 

Panda            http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

 

See if any of them fix it for you

thanks for your reply dunedin... unfortunatley i have already tried all of your suggestions

(except for the sysinfo website one (which is very handy mind you)) and have had no

luck with any.

This is rather a strange problem and i have scoured the web for hours now, but

am unable to find anyone else who has the same problem.

The hardest part about this problem is that no errors messages are displayed

until you log off the regular user and you get an 'end program explorer.exe' error..

There arent any messages in the system logs either...

im starting to pull my hair out over this one as it is starting to happen to more machines

now...

 

so.. if anyone has anymore suggestions, please throw them at me!!
