NAV 2002 vs NAV 2004
Hi - I have an Inspiron 4100 with NAV 2002 on my laptop. The definitions are going to run out shortly. Is there an advatage to upgrading to 2004 or should I just renew my NAV definition subscription for another year? I've read on other posts (I think) that's it's a good idea to upgrade to a new version every other year. Is this so?
Thanks for any information!!

2002 is getting a little long in the tooth. Plus Norton isn't updating 2002 or 2003 so Windows SP2 recognizes it's running. With earlier version you'll get warnings from the Security Center unless you disable it.
With the rebates available you can get 2004 for less than the update for 2002. 2005 is in public beta now, and will probably be out shortly, further driving down the price of 2004.

You might consider NAV 2003 or NSW 2003 with Go back for ~ $9.00. You get 1 year of updates. GoBack is a valuable tool and I wouldn't be without it.

Enter NAV2003 or NSW2003 in the search window. When my NAV2004 ran out, I bought NAV2003 from them rather than pay for a renewal. Just something to think about.

For those anxious that XP SP2 security center should recognise NAV 2003, the patch Symantec issued for 2004 works equally well for NAV 2003 (I've tried it).
This is just a cosmetic fix, since although with the patch security center can tell that NAV is installed, it can't actually tell its status (always shows it as on and up to date, even if you disable NAV); but at least security center shows the green light.
Without the patch, tell security center 'have my own, will monitor myself'. In either case continue to use live update regularly
For home users the patch is not availabloe for download from Symantec, but it is from here:

If you download the file you'll need Winrar to extract its contents to install the patch.

Hi - Thanks for the information. Due to circumstances beyond my control I wasn't able to get out to get 2004 yet. Are there any reviews on the system resources that NAV 2005 uses vs 2004? I have a PIII Inspirpn 4100 w/ 386 megs of RAM.
Thanks,

I haven't seen any reviews, but I did download the public beta and tried it out. I wasn't impressed with it on my PIII HP laptop. It seemed to slow the system down more than 2004. Symantec has jumped on the adaware bandwagon and NAV now also blocks adaware, spyware, IM trojans.....and bad breath, I think. It's a lot more bloated than previous versions.

Thanks for the information. Virus software is probably one of the toughest items to buy. Very few products have overall positive reviews - I guess just pick one and hope for the best (although my personal experience with McAfee years ago was horrible).
Thanks again!
