NAV2003 locks up scanning "compressed" files--help please
When ever I try to run using "scan within compressed files" my system locks up or I receive error 3019005 (virus scan failed). Running WinMe diminsion 4100, current on all updates with NAV & Microsoft windows. I keep temp files clean along with internet files and off line files. I defrag and scan. I run spybot and adaware and am clean.
I can run a scan completely if I uncheck "scan within compressed files".
I've tried safe mode and my system either locks up or I get the above mentioned error.
I've uninstalled and re-installed NAV as per instructions from symantic to no avail.
If I scan within compressed files, doing each file individually, it's works, but that takes alot of time.
I've run e-trust scan on line, and as long as I do each file individually, it works, but if I try to do a complete scan without doing them individually, my system locks up.
Can someone give me some advice please,
thanks,
newbeee

Thanks, for the good and bad news.
I'm thinking of getting the 8400, loaded. It's actually cheaper then when I purchased this Diminsion 4100 4 years ago.
The good news is that I had the 4 year warranty, so Dell has replaced the hard drives for me and my memory module.
Have a great year.
By the way, the Hoyle card games works great on my friends Diminsion 4100. I loaded his game on mine and still locks up. OH Well!
Thanks,
Jerrie

Thanks again,
That's what I thought. NAV has never worked scanning within compressed files unless I do each file individually.
NAV2000 came with this machine, ran fine till I had to replace the hard drive. That's when the problem started.
When I had to replace the 3rd hard drive, I purchased NAV2003 thinking that it would run smoother, guess not!!!
Since the 2nd and 3rd hard drive, I have problems with a certain Hoyle bridge game that locks up, but, use to run great. I posted that problem in "Windows Me", but no help.
Thank you for your help

If you are replacing that many drives, it may be that you have an overheating issue or you have been extremely unlucky with drive purchases. I have one computer here from 2000 that still has the same drive with no issues whatsoever. It may also be the lack of ram that is causing the drive to work itself to death, literally, using the swap file so often. The more you make those heads seek/search, the faster the drive can die, especially if it is getting hot or overworking.
The Hoyle games also lock up on my Windows 2000 and Windows XP boxes here. Seems the software may have some issues. Keep in mind the date of WindowsMe vs. the date of WindowsXP. What runs great and is designed for WindowsXP is not necessarily always backwards compatible. You are severly limiting yourself in what you can run without issues by the lack of ram, and the age of your operating system.
Most of the less expensive programs like Hoyles Games, 3D Architect, Business Lawyer, etc seem to have issues with almost any operating system however. Symantec products are known system resource hogs. My mail with an 8400, 1 gig of ram, 160 gig drive almost slows to a stop using Symantec while it flies using F-Secure.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but time for a computer upgrade I think.
