Need Drivers ?
I have a Dell Dimension 2350 that I'm trying to fix for my daughter.
The hard drive went bad so I installed a new one and installed XP Pro.
The internal sound card, and ethernet connection, are not recognized so I assume I need drivers.
I go to the driver help page and found info on the order in which drivers should be installed.
Here is the first part:
Note: Some devices may not function properly if the drivers are installed out of order.
1.
Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling Windows or updating all drivers, it is important that this software be installed first. This is located under the
System Utilities Category on the Drivers and Downloads page
.
My problem is I can not find the
System Utilities Category or driver mentioned (
Desktop System Software (DSS)).
I could also use some help with this whole driver download set up.
Any help would be greatly appreachated.
Thanks! Don

There appears to be no Desktop System Software for the 2350, but you DO require the Chipset driver. This should be the first driver you install.

You should ask your daughter if she has the original disks that came with the computer. Never discard computer software before you dispose of an unwanted computer. The drivers are on the utilities disk. To check for driver installation, click Start and open Control Panel. Click on System and open System Properties. Click on Hardware and open Deviice Manager. Click on Network Adapters and corresponding devices to see if there are yellow question marks. If there are no question marks the drivers are installed . If you installed the Chipset driver first and then Video driver followed the Audio driver and the Broadcom driver they are installed in the correct order. Close Control Panel and click Start. Open Run and type msconfig and press OK . You are opening the System Configuration Utility. Open SYSTEM.INI and Click on Enable All. Open Services and check the programs you need to keep running. Press Apply and click OK. Restart the computer. Also Dell computer drivers are available at support.dell.com/drivers You will need the Service Tag No. which should be on a black strip on left side of the computer or you must enter the correct model of your Dell computer. You can download the drivers from another computer and copy them onto a disk or USB drive.

Thank You! Daughter lost the system Disk. I'm amazed she still has the computer.
Followed your advice and got everything working.
I had to download the needed drivers to my computer, put on a CD and install from it.
Thanks again!
