Need Help With Internet Timeout..DSL Modem Still Active

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 with XP Pro operating system.  I also have SBC/Yahoo DSL.
My computer runs at 2.8 Ghz with a 80 Gig HD.

Several times each day my Internet connection goes dead on me even tho diagnostics say I am still connected via my DSL Modem which is still active (all modem lights are on and restarting the modem doesn't help).  When I "Restart" my computer I can then again connect to the Internet.

I have the following security programs which I use each day to eliminate any bugs or spyware:
ZoneAlarm Pro; Ad-Aware SE Personal; Spybot-Search and Destroy; Spyware Blaster;SBC Yahoo AntiSpy; and Spyware X-terminator.  I usually use Internet Explorer as my browser but when this problem occurs I also cannot connect to Opera or Firefox browsers.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Make sure that the software for this is not set to time out or log off. This sounds like what is happening to the system.

Go to Device Manager and click the + sign next to Network adapters to expand the listings. Right click on the adapter that makes the internet connection, then choose Properties from the drop-down menu. Click on the Power Management tab and remove all checkmarks from the boxes.

Thanks Madthinker.  I unchecked the "power off mgmt" box for saving power.  Lets see if this works.

Thanks

Thanks Steve for the suggestion.  There was a check mark for Power Management to close to save power.  I unchecked this and will see if this helps.  Many thanks for your suggestion.

Hi Steve, I uncheck the box for power management but, it didn't stop my computer from "timing out" even though my DSL Modem was active and working.  What do you suggest next?

P.S. I was able to post the previous message then, when I went back to my browser (I.E.) I was able to sign in and browse the Internet.  However, before this, I couldn't connect to anything.  Sometimes when this happens I can't even connect to this forum.  Go figure.  :-(

When the connection goes out, see if you can renew the connection. Go to Start > Run and type cmd, then click OK. In the command prompt window that comes up, type ipconfig /release /renew then hit Enter. Does this restore the connection? If it does, then it is not a solution to the problem but may give us a hint as to what is going on.

Steve, the fix you suggested didn't last.  Any other ideas?
