Best bet is to download to your hard drive. Restart your computer. Then run Java install. Reason: Installation often fails if you attempt an online install or download/install while logged into a secure site.
Thanks to you all for your help. All is working well now but I'm sure I will be back again! XP is (just a bit!) different from Win 98 so I am changing all views to classic windows and find that is making things more familiar. Thanks again.
