Need recommendation finding system cleanup software

First to let you know I am no computer genius.  I have an older Inspiron 5100 and a new e1505.  The 5100 runs like .  It is so slow and the hard drive always seems to be busy,,I assume there are tons of junk on the harddrive that is bogging it down and perhaps some spyware, who knows.  It does have McCafee virus scan and firewall software but I suspect something snuck by my online protection.  I am looking for a recommendation for a good system repair  type software that I can buy that will help speed my computer back to what it used to be, cleans registers,, whatever.....  BTW, I love the e1505,,runs amazingly well.   The 5100 is now my wifes and it is her off too.

The best  http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html    Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Install and update definitions and run a system scan.

You may be running low on memory also, when windows runs out of physical memory, it will start using the hard drive as virtual memory, bringing things to a crawl.

If you're up for it, you could use PC Restore to reset the system to exactly the way Dell shipped it. Bear in mind that you must back up all your personal files on CD first, and any software you installed and all XP updates will have to be reinstalled. Anything you stored on the hard drive that isn't backed up to CD will be lost forever.

Access PC Restore by pressing Ctrl-F11 before XP starts to load, after you've backed up your files, of course. ;)

Free software I use for cleanup:

CCleaner   (best free junk cleaner)

JK defrag   (best free defragmenter I've used)

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner  (best free registry cleaner and makes a backup of registry)

Just copy and paste the program names into Google to take a look. Best part (Free).

For "all in one" utilities, go to www.iolo.com and look at their system mechanic and system mechanic pro, or go to www.v-com.com and look at their system suite and fixit utilities. Also, it's limited uses, I like Window Washer (www.webroot.com). For free spyware/adware protection look at spybot search and destroy, ad-aware se and of course Microsoft's Windows Defender. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.  I have a bad memory module in the 5100 and am going to replace that.  After that  I will try the free software first,,I had my eye on the Iola software and am glad someone confirmed that, and if none of that works,,I will send the thing back to the day it was born with restore.  Everything I need is on my e1505 so whatever happens to the 5100 is fine.  Thanks.
