You don't say which model computer you have, information that is always useful when you post a question here, but the instructions for the 8100 as linked below, should be pretty generic:

Yes, there are viruses that disable your antivirus software.  Try posting your question in the Virus Information & Removal forum.  You might first want to run an online virus scan - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If you can identify the virus, then people over there can help you remove it.

I have a Dell 4100.  Have you ever heard of a v---s that shuts down and doesn't let you run your v----s protection? I can't type the word.  Thanks.

I tried to click on the link you gave me, but the computer won't let me go there.  If I click on the forum that you told me to go to, explorer shuts down.  I told you this bug won't let me do anything.  I cannot click on anything that says v----s.

I cannot get to that forum because when I click on anything that has the word v----s in it, explorer closes all together.  I know where the forum i, but this bug shuts down when anything has to do with the word or actual running of the anti---- program.  I physically cannot get there because  that forum has that word in it and I cannot click on it.  Everything shuts down.

If you can get to this forum, you should be able to get to the virus infromation and removal forum without the link.  Go back to forum home and click on the virus infromation and removal forum.  It's listed immediately before the Operating System Tune-ups forum.

I'ved never heard of this problem before.  See if you can get to the link below:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_sysperf&message.id=1631

It's the same message that occurs the top of the Virus Information & Removal Forum.  If you can get there, follow the links to download and install HijackThis, then run it and post the log it creates in one of the recommended antispyware forums in the message.

No, I can't get to that link.  Do you think I should just reinstall windows me again?  This hijacking program is very new to me.  I don't know how to show the log.

You can get to this forum, right - you're posting messages here. The message I have referred you to is the one by ChrisRLG at the top of this forum, in the area with the yellow background, third message down.  Can you read that message?

Yes I can read that message.  I told you I cannot click on anything that has the word v---s in it.  Chris'  message had that word on it and I clicked on it.  The computer immediately took me out of explorer back to my desktop.  I CANNOT CLICK ON ANYTHING THAT HAS THAT WORD IN IT!!!!

Here's the link to HijackThis:

http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

Download the program and follow the directions at that site to produce a Log.  Post your log to a new message in this forum, and I will make sure that the HijackThis experts see it here and respond.

When I try to post the log from hijack this, the messge body is too big.  It says the field must be shorter than 20000 characters in length.  Now what ddo I do?
