Need XP CD for a second hand Dell Optiplex 270

I bought a Dell Optiplex from a company that was downsizing. I am trying to reinstall XP and need the CD. I contacted Dell support with the tag and serial number and was told that I need to provide the original owner information for them to ship me a CD. I do not have that information.

Is there any way I can receive this software? I think the hardware purchase is fully legal and i would like to keep the software on it leagal, too

Couple of things that might be of interest,

some computers have a hidden image partition on the hard disk, for restoring the factory installed
os
(can be reached by pressing ctrl+f11 at the dell logo screen), if the partition does not exist...nothing will happen.
If the

You could ring Microsoft, quoting your product key (usually affixed to the computer)
explain your situation, they may send out a copy,

The better route though, is a change of ownership, this can be done on the dell website,
However you will need to know the old user details.

another possibility is to get an xp disc and use your valid product key to activate it.

Depending on the size of the company, they probably had a volume license edition of XP which will not transfer, however, every machine comes with a copy of the OS so someone has that copy, unless, the company purchased systems with OS's installed which is unlikely.

Check with the Sys Admin for the compnay and work something out.
