See if you have a file RepairRedist.htm in the folder C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\1033.

If you have, double click on it to open it in IE. It gives suggestions for a repair install.

In case you don't have that file, this is what it says:

You may need to repair your installation of the .NET Framework after upgrading your operating system or if the system becomes corrupted.

To repair the .NET Framework

1. Obtain the original installation source. For example, if you installed the .NET Framework from CD or DVD, insert the disk. Or, if you downloaded the .NET Framework, download again and choose to save to disk. If you installed from a network share, reconnect.

2. On the Start menu, choose Run.
3. For Windows 98 and Windows Me type: command
For Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP or later, type: cmd

4. In the command window, type the following:

n:\ \dotnetfx.exe /t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /fvecms %temp%\netfx.msi"

For example:

d:\dotNetFramework\dotnetfx.exe /t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /fvecms %temp%\netfx.msi"

You can get .NET framework 1.1 from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en

and its service pack 1 from

gaz hammer,

As you can see, you cannot post an image from your hard disk and have it appear in your post. Please post the text of the error message you receive.

See if this helps

If you need it, in Method 2 step 7, note that in XP SP2, the version of Windows Installer is 3.0. You can get it from

That's really helped a lot regarding windows installer and that is now functioning - Thank You.

I also found this useful link:-

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555175&Product=winxp in which I have used the cleanup facility to help with the original problem of .net framework 1.1 sitting in add/remove with no remove facility.  That I am pleased to say is now gone. :smileyhappy:

Time to now work out how to re-install .net framework - any ideas?

All your help is very much appreciated!

Kind Regards

Gaz

Glad it's sorted. Thanks for posting those other useful links. That will help anyone else encountering a similar problem.

Did you also install .net framework 1.1 service pack 1 (link in one of my earlier posts)?

Hi,
I have showing in the add/remove programs window - Microsoft .NET framework 1.1, is this the service pack and if not, do I need it?

The only reason I found I had a problem origionally was when trying to install windows media connect as it looks quite interesting.
I am now irritatingly having a problem getting that to load.

Here we go again!

The service pack 1 to .net framework 1.1 is an update to it. It does not show separately in add/remove. So if you only installed the original .NET framework 1.1 (which does show up in add/remove), it would be a good idea to install the update (link in my previous post, which also gives info on the things the update fixes).

BTW, do not confuse .NET framework 1.1 and its service pack 1 with .NET framework 1.0 and its service packs 1 to 3. Despite the names, they are separate (can coexist on the same PC), i.e. 1.1, although extending in some ways the features in 1.0, is not an update to it in the normal sense of the word. Some older software uses 1.0, more recently made software generally uses 1.1, including Windows media connect. You don't need 1.0 for those.

I don't have Windows media connect, as my stereo system and TV are in different rooms from my PC, so it would be of little use to me. So I can't help you on that, other than to point you to the readme file that is on the windows media connect download page (you've probably already looked at that though); it gives some info on known issues.

When you say you are having problems loading windows media connect, do you mean installing it or starting it after it has been installed? If during install, are the issues the same as with .net framework 1.1, or different?

Hey Thanks,
I have just installed the service pack from the link you gave earlier and under the administrative tools it shows as version v1.1.4322.  Is this correct?

Thanks as well for the link for media connect.  I am still looking into the problem as to why it won't load.
