Net Framework... which one do I need ?

Good morning friends....

After a new reinstall of Windows XP Home (no problems.. just a yearly routine fresh reinstall), the Windows Update shows three versions of Net Framework.. versions one, two, or three.

What would be the correct procedure... to install number one first, then follow with installing numbers two and three ?    Or ...  is it best to skip number one and two and just install the latest version number three ?

I searched the Dell forum but could not locate info to differentiate between the 3 different versions.

Thank you; and good day !

GimmeShelter,

Generally, installing the newest version of a runtime library will cover you for the older versions.  Install version 3 and see if Windows Update still offers the older versions.  If so, then install the older versions.  Be sure to install the security patches for the older versions if you do install them.

Hello Steve... thanks so much for your quick reply; much appreciated here my friend.

I went and installed the version number 3; rebooted; then installed the two service pack updates for version 3.  All is running fine here so I'll ignore the version 1 and 2 Net Framework that still show up in Windows Updates.  I'm not even sure what Net Framework is, lol...  but this ole' Dimension E-510 is running like a champ so I'll leave well enough alone and not install those older versions numbered 1 and 2.

Guess I was being overly cautious, lol...  But I spent a few hours yesterday reinstalling my pics, music files, and documents after the reinstall of Windows so I guess I didn't want to muck anything up the wrong Net Framework version.

Luv my Dell desktops... the ole' 4700 is still running like a true champion too !

Thanks Steve.. Happy New Year to you...

if you don't use any programs that use .net framework libraries, you really don't need them installed
