NET framework?

I just reinstalled Windows XP and all the drivers (yes, in the proper order).  I do not know what NET framework is and whether I need it.  Can someone give me an idea?  Thanks!

Think of the .NET framework as a bunch of scripts and widgets that are installed and integrate into the OS that react to commands to provide some functionality. For instance some ATI drivers mandate the installation of .NET 1.1 to support their driver managment utility.

Is any of this necessary ? No. the framework of scripts and widgets aren't used for anything critical however you might find a program needing them and you can usually install the necessary component at that time.

Thanks, I guess I'll just see if I need it and install it then :)

That's what I did here too. My Windows Updates shows numerous ones (3 I think..)  but I chose not  to install them because I wasn't too sure exactly what they were for.

My pc and all my programs are running like a true champ and I have absolutely no issues at all without Net Framework.
