There should be a setting that will do that. I don't use dial-up anymore, and I don't have my WinME system here to check anyway.

But I think it's either in the "Dial-Up Networking" connectoid settings or in the "Device Manager entry for the adapter or the TCP/IP protocol for that adapter.

Poke around there to see if there's anything about the System Tray.

i did as you suggested thanks very much but not there. i found this from microsoft,

This article describes how to enable or disable the Dial-up Networking Connection icon on the system tray portion of the taskbar.
MORE INFORMATION
To enable the Dial-up Networking Connection icon in the system tray, follow these steps:
Open the Dial-up Networking folder. In Windows 98, you can access this folder from My Computer on the desktop. In Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you can access the Dial-up Networking folder from Control Panel.
On the Connections menu, click Settings.
Click to select the Show an icon on the taskbar after connected check box.
Click OK to close the Dial-up Networking Settings window.
To disable the Dial-up Networking Connection icon in the system tray, use the steps in this section, but click to clear the Show an icon on the taskbar after connected check box that is mentioned in step 3.

thanks brian
