Network Connections Folder Is Empty

Question

In Control Panel-Network Connections is blank.  Previously showed Dial-up Connection and LAN Connection with the Status of each.  When I try to open, a window appears,'Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve list of Network Adapters on your machine.  Make sure Network Connections Service is enabled and running.'   To enable, I go to Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services(local)-Network Connections - Attempted to start service and get Error Message 193:oxc1, 'Could not start Network Services on Local Computer'.   Windows Firewall is also disabled.  In Control Panel-Windows Firewall, when tryng to enable, a window appears, 'Windows Firewall settings can not be displayed because associated service is not running.  Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connections Sharing (ICS) Service? (YES)  Window appears, 'Windows can not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connections Sharing Service.   Can anyone tell me how to correct whatever problem is causing this condition?

No...I can't, but post in the Dimension>Network section and try to get Volcano11 to respond...he's a beast with this kind of stuff.

DoubleDaffy, thanks for the tip.  Posted my problem last night and Volcano11 was on line and I got almost an instant reply.  Haven't tried his suggestions yet. Bulldawg
