I guarantee you that you did not provide access to the network on the firewalls.  That will be the issue.  You need to permit the specific home network ranges:

192.168.0.1 - 192.168.2.255

169.254.0.1 - 169.254.255.255

1) Post on the networking forums if this doesn't help.

2) If you're not using a router, you need a CROSSOVER cable.  If you did use a router, make sure the network name is identical on each machine, enable File and Print Sharing, and make sure the firewalls on each machine are set to allow the network.

Issue here is, new Dell system, installed into an existing home network..
8 port router with several computers
all computers were working before new system installed
all original computers are still working
new system, sometimes sees the rest of home network, but most of the time fails to communicate with other systems.
one thing, it has done and worked great, is transfer, using the xp pro install cd, is move all my old files and settings to my new system..  I liked that.
I have tried just about everything I know of, and so far have not had success on making the new system, appear on the home network, or if it does appear, will not communicate with other computers, and other computers can't communicate with it, majority of the time.

Hooks to internet OK, and does all rest of normal things just fine..

Came with Norton Security, XP security, and not sure what else..   have turned both of these off for a time, and still same results.

Have made no changes in router settings, as didn't appear any was needed, was working before, and still working on original machines.
