New Computer - New Technologies - Should I be Interested?

I am in the process of thinking about purchasing a new computer and wonder if I should include the various technologies that either have just been or are about to be introduced.     It might be helpful if I stated that while I have no interest in games and my usage is primarily  Word, Money, Outlook Express and the Internet, I do want to include whatever new technologies that would provide improved performance or would keep me with a reasonably up-to-date system.   1.  64-bit CPU:  What would this provide me?  As I understand it I would have to purchase the Windows XP Pro X64 operating system and AMD's Athlon 64 or Intel's upcoming Em64T Platinum.   2. Dual-Core Processor:  Intel's is on the market with AMD's coming out later this year.  Will this make a difference in performance for a fairly modest computer user?   3.  SLI:   Will this only benefit gamers?  Or will it provide higher performance for anyone who is willing to purchase a motherboard with it installed and two graphics cards? None of it is specifically necessary for your tasks.  64bit may be big eventually, but it will be a while. In general, wait as long as you can -- you'll always get more for cheaper later

You should be interested in 64-bit in 2-3 years. Many people in the tech world will begin to migrate onto 64-bit. Right now it is of no use (and XP64 isn't all that great either) SLI is only for hardcore geeky gamers that cry and get angry over 0.1666667 second lags. It allows the graphic processing power to be doubled because two identical cards are running   I don't have a clear understanding of what dual core is but I believe it is similar to HyperThreading that works in ALL situations. Right now HyperThreading is only good for apps designed for HT.
