New Dimension E520 4th reformat to factory settings, help

Question

Well, I have had my new Dell for a week now and have spent several days configuring and rebooting the system to factory settings and still haven't gotten the machine to run well. It continually wants to lock up on shutdown or start-up. Just reformatted to factory settings for the fourth time. Any suggestions on initial configuration to get to a stable platform? Programs to remove? Patches to install? Any insightful suggestions are appreciated. Tech support hasn't come through on this for me.   Thanks

Does it relaibly work in safe mode? If so, try doing an MSConfig clean boot and drilling it down to what program may have caused this.

Is your BIOS up to date? Dell just released a new version 2.2.1 for the E520. Originally it came with 2.0.2 and the vista disc upped it to 2.1.2 and a few days later it's now 2.2.1 kinda confusing to ppl not to good with computers. Had to get update from Dell.
