New Folder Rename Problem
I have recently had to have the hard drive replaced on my Inspiron 5150 and therefore am working with a 'blank canvas' of newly installed XP Home. I am able to create folders in My Documents and on the Desktop and can add files to them no problem. However, I cannot rename or delete these new folders which is VERY frustrating. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? I have XP Home with SP2 and all microsoft updates.
Thanks in advance
Ermie

What happens when you try to delete or rename these folders? Do you get an error messge? If so, what does the error message say? What other software have you installed besides Windows? Perhaps you provided more details, someone could help.

Do not use a registry cleaner. In most cases these just cause more problems than they are worth. Providing the text of the error message would be the most useful thing you can do at this point, as without knowledge of the error, we can only suggest among a few hundred thousand possibilities. If you have to use the old fashioned method of pencil and paper to copy the message and then type it into a reply, then that would certainly be more beneficial than using a registry cleaner. Have you installed any new software just prior to the start of this problem? Have you considered using System Restore to restore you computer to a state when it was working correctly?

OK, have just tried a right mouse click on the folder then rename option. Error report as before but Error Sig as follows:-
EventType: BEX P1:drwtsn32.exe P2:5.1.2600.0 P3: 3b7d84a2 P4: dbghelp.dll P5: 5.1.2600.2180
P6: 4110969a P7: 0001295d P8: c0000409 P9: 00000000
View Tech Info gives me:-
C:\DOCUME~1\Main\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER92ef.dir00\drwtsn32.exe.mdmp
C:DOCUME~1\Main\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER92ef.dir00\appcompat.txt
After I clicked on send error report the system wouldn't let me access anything although I could move the mouse around. Task manager showed two instances of Dr Watson as running processes one at 7000k and one at 2000k. Only way to get back into any program is to close the larger DrW process manually.
Will check the error on delete file and come back....

I will write the error down and type it in for you. Have spent all week reinstalling all of my software having just got the machine back from IT Solutions who replaced the hdd and reinstalled XP from my disc. I didn't try renaming or deleting any folders until after I had installed all of the software but I haven't put anything on that wasn't on the machine before the new hdd and it was OK before! I'll get the error details and post them shortly...
