New Philips drive update, How do i know that it worked?

hi,

i tried to update my philips dvd+/-RW (QSI SDVD8820 slim 8x DVD+/-RW). it said i had to restart and guess what happened while it was restartin.... BSOD (blue screen of DEATH)

how do i make sure that the update was successful?

dell inspiron 640m
core duo t2400
1 gb ram
80 gb hdd

Yup its firmware, well if it asked you to reboot then the firmware flash was successful, so can you get into windows at all? Try removing the drive from the laptop and see if it gets past the BSOD

Are you talking about Firmware or device Driver?

Right click on MyComputer, Properties, Hardware Tab, then Device Manager.  Click on the +sign next to CD/DVD drives and right click on the drive.  Chose Properties, then Details.  In the middle of that line is the drive's currently loaded firmware.
 
Or download DVDInfoPro and run it.  It will tell you the firmware and tons of other info.

So where to get the correct firmware? Hope it did not brick the drive..
Have you tried the Phillips site.

I was in live chat with dell and was told this is not for the philips sdvd 8820.

sorry that post looked crazy. I tried to paste it in.
Seems Dell has a problem with the philips sdvd8820, drive but I am sure they are working on a solution.
My drive won't read some cd's.
Do not download the QSISDVD8820 thinking it is for the philips sdvd8820

Dell generic drive?  who knows what wang doodle company they buy them from. Basically whoever can meet their delivery and cost requirements at the time.

it doesn't matter.. it was sucsessful...i checked it through nero infotool
