new security certificates after upgrading hdd

Upgraded an Inspiron 6000 with Win XP pro, original 40GB HDD to faster 80Gb HDD. Reinstalled Win XP fresh onto the new HDD as the imaging software didn't quite work, but the data imaged just fine including the encrypted files. But, the old encrypted files cannot be opened on the new HDD because the security certificate is different. Is there a way to import the old security certificate to the new HDD (both have the same OS) and then allow me to open the encrypted files? Thanks for any advice
