New Vista PC - System Restore not working.

I have had my new Dell Dimenions E520 PC (Vista) for about 2 weeks now - the first time I started it up the screen was blank. We got the monitor working but then occasionally the screen was blank again on starting up. I also noticed that System Restore failed to work. Then we re-installed the Vista Operating System, but again System Restore does not work (error message on rebooting after system restore: "An unspecified error occurred during System Restore"). Can anyone please suggest a solution?  I don't want to start installing software until I know that the system is stable and working.

Some computers do not have have quick restore. Do you see a blue bar at startup with Dell written on it?

Use Chat to contact Dell Support if you are in the US. New computers should work properly. This is a User to User forum and you need real Dell support.

Thanks.  I am in the UK - there is no chat support with Dell on Saturdays or Sundays.  Yes, I will get some expert Dell support on Monday.

Here is something to check,
Go to control panel, Backup and restore center, in the upper left hand corner of the window, click on "create a restore point or change settings",
The system properties window will open and will search for your drives.
When it finishes searching, make sure there is a check in your c drive, if there isn't put one there and click apply.
Good luck,
jd

Yes, I think I resolved the issue.  I was using System Restore to restore to a point prior to an unsatisfactory program installation.  First, you must uninstall the program properly, and then use System Restore to restore the settings.  Hope this helps, Steve.
