you always have the option of doing a clean reinstall of win xp, which should straighten out any problems that you are experiencing.. there are instructions is dell support, product support/reinstall guide.. it is relatively easy to do..

you should back up any files that you want to save (like pictures, documents, "favorites") before reformatting the harddrive, which will erase all data on the harddrive..

also, you should enable win xp's "internet connection firewall" before reconnecting to the internet after doing a clean install of win xp, or, instead, install another firewall that you have saved on disks, before reconnecting to the internet..

i can see that you've done virus scan but still your system locks up...I would just like to ask, what error message do you have on your pop-up window so that i could help you accurately... have you checked for your system resources? how many percent do you have? and additional info-after using your computer please shut it down properly, sometimes that might cause the system to hang up... have you downloaded some application?software?from the internet? perhaps you have spyware on your system...

cool thing... clean reinstallation would be a great idea... I agree with that

after reinstalling windows xp... check on your device manager if there are drivers not found so that you could also reinstall them...

Click on START; right click on MY COMPUTER, click on PROPERTIES, choose HARDWARE tab, click on DEVICE MANAGER....

in the device manager window, you might see yelloq question mark icons--which would determine that those drivers are not installed... thus, get ready to reinstall drivers through your dell resource cd drivers and utilities. through that cd, you will be able to install your chipset drivers, video drivers, audio drivers, and network drivers...

to reinstall modem... use the resource cd that has a modem label on it...

to finish all the process, it will take you about 2 to 3 hours... goodluck

I dont receive any pop-up errors. The site wont respond or it wont load quickly. I havent checked my system resource because I have no clue what it is or how to check it. I have properly shut down my computer after every use. I have downloaded from the internet.

I know I have spyware. (what is it by the way?) Im not quite sure how I got it in the first place but I did remove it by going to "add and remove programs". (Does that fully remove the spyware from my computer?)
