new xp pro install doesn't auto configure my network adapter

Hi,

I had a virus that I couldn't get rid of so I formatted and installed xp pro.  Now I can't connect to the internet.  I don't think windows autoconfigured my network adapter.  When I got my computer from dell, I just plugged it into my router to my cable modem and it worked.  Is there something I have to do to get xp pro to find my network adapter and printers?

My system is a Precision 360.

Thank you,

Roger

Sorry I can't help you. I have the same problem.

After a HD crash on a Inspiron 5100 with Windows XP Pro, Dell sent me a new drive and I tried to reinstall the Software from the CD's.

Unfortunately I can't find the correct Ethernet-Controller driver on my CD's. What's the driver I need and where can I get it?

The drivers are on your Resource CD but also remember to install your chipset drivers.

Roger,

Since the Ethernet adapter in a Precision 360 is integrated on the motherboard ("LOM"), you'll need two drivers:

Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
Intel Gigabit LOM

The chipset driver should always be installed after completing an OS reinstall, or onboard devices won't be recognized correctly.

Here's the complete list of XP drivers for the Precision 360.

Thanks jmwills, I'll see if I can find my Resource CD when I get home.

Thanks Jim, Sounds like you got all the right info.  I'll try it out when I get home.

Thank you. It was not clear that I need to re-install the chipset drivers too.

If you formatted the drive, then the chipset drivers need to be re-installed.
