Newbe needs help. BDE question.

I lost my BDEadmin folder on my XP control panel.  Last night I successfully installed new software on my laptop, noticed it was under my sons log in so I uninstalled it through the control panel and tried to reinstall it under my log in.  It would not.  It is giving me "merge error"  "use BDEadmin to configure"  "unable to initialize BDEabmin" messages.

I searched the archives here but found no help other then some talk of BDE being spyware.  I have desktop running XP it has never been hooked up to the net and it has the BDEADMIN folder.  As you can imagine, that adds to my confusion.

Is there some way to reinstall it?

Thanks in advance.

bdnrranger,

That appears to be related to the Borland Database Engine, rather than spyware. You may be able to find some assistance through the links here.

I was hoping you would reply.  During my searches your name came up alot,  you seem to be the resident expert on the subject.

My wife and I are listed as administrators on xp yet it will not let me finish download the bde from the link you gave me, from either of our logins , it gives the "you do not have access".  Earlier I saw you did something on "taking control of your XP system" but now I can't find it.  I went into the setup but there is no administrator setting and the password is disabled.  Doing the ctrl/alt/del twice leaves me in the task menu and does not give me a place to type in "administrator" as I think I read from one of your other posts.  Thanks.

bnrranger,

I can't explain the lack of access to that site, it is not a secure site. On my Internet Explorer I have my security set to Medium (Tools|Internet Options|Security tab, click "Custom Level" and select medium from the drop-down menu) and Privacy (privacy tab) also set to medium.

As far as logging on as Administrator, you must do that from the XP Welcome screen, not from within Windows. If you are using XP Home Edition it must be done in Safe Mode (to enter Safe Mode, start tapping F8 when starting the computer and select Safe Mode from the menu that appears).
