Thanks, fireberd. I don't use Standby (that I know of!). I do use the power management stuff, shutting down the HDD and monitor after a set period of time.
But that's not happening in these cases. The monitor doesn't shut down. The little "No Connection" window just pops up (Hmmmm, a POP-UP??) on the screen and stays there 'till I click Try Again.
Check the properties of your Ethernet adapter in Hardware Device Manager and check Power Management. Make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this hardware to save power" is NOT selected. BTW, if your power settings allow the hard drive to be turned off, it will disconnect you.
I found that setting in Device Manager and "Allow the computer etc..." is not checked.
I do have Power Management set to turn off the monitor and hard drive after 10 minutes of inactivity, but when I get this "No Connection ..." window I do seem to be still connected. IE goes to the desired site or page instantly, with no delay.
If you are using cable modem, I suggest the following (assuming Linksys router is set to defaults):
Click Start|Control Panel|Network Connections. Right click on your LAN connection. Left click on properties. Highlight Internet Protocol. Click Properties button. Enter the following:
Use the following IP address:
IP Address: 192.168.1.105
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Use the following DNS Server addresses:
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
(Enter the addresses shown by right click on LAN connection, left click on Status, click on Support tab, click on Details button)
I went thru your instructions, I think. I'm a novice, so I have mostly no idea of what that's all about. So now it's wait and see if things still work and if there's a change in getting that little "No Connection ..." window.
I'll post back here when I have an idea about the outcome!!
After following your directions as best I could, then checking out my system, I found that I could not access the internet. I panicked, went back into my Network Connections and set it back to "Automatic". I can now access the Internet. I guess your instructions were more complicated than a novice like me could handle

Hi Tony, Thanks for your help.
