I would like to suggest few steps which might help us in fixing the issue. Please try the following steps:
Check if the Webcam is detected in Device Manager. Open the Start Menu, type “device manager” in the search box and press . Expand the tab for Imaging Devices and check if the webcam is detected.
The system comes installed with the Dell Webcam Central software suite. Uninstalling and re-installing the software can be tried. Please follow the article to Uninstall and Re-install the Webcam Central Software.
Please try the steps and write back with results, would be glad to assist further.
hey Allan , The basic problem I am facing is that there is no option of "Imaging Device " in my device manager , I am currently using windows 7 ultimate ( 64bit ) , can you please help me out with this :(
Can we please get help for this issue? None of the above fixes have helped me with this issue. No matter what I uninstall and re-install, I still have no Imaging Device in my Device Manager.
After much reading online and NO HELP AT ALL from the Dell support rep assigned to me, I found that when you don't see an imaging device, you need to plug in your camera.
In my Vostro, you simply carefully remove the besel (the trim that holds the screen flat) pull the screen a bit forward and I was able able to see the camera wire where it had become unplugged. I simply plugged it back in and problem solved.
Check your owner's manual to see how to get to your camera and I'm sure you'll find it's the same problem of the camera being unplugged. Mine's unplugged again - Dell put it in such a stupid place that when I shut the lid to my Vostro, it works the camera loose.
After hours running diagnostics and wasting time reading no help articles I finally found this thread..
Many Thanks LADYBUG252.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15R SE (7520, Mid 2010) and the same problem had occured. When i removed the plastic edging from around my screen the camera started to flicker. (Just coax it at the corner you don't need any tools to take off the plastic shroud)
The ridiculously small white plug to the left of the camera housing had wiggled it's way out of the socket. It was a pain in the teds to get it back in without causing any damage but I managed it in the end.
All in all it took me no more than 10 minutes to fix.
I would suggest that you find a small flat screwdriver just to help wiggle the plug gently back into the socket.
I have the same problem. I have Windows 7. The webcam does not appear as any device on the Device Manager. Skype and other webcam software say they can't find device. Any help is appreciated!

Hello Marosha,
In this case, try uninstalling and re-installing the software (Dell Webcam Central). Please follow the article to Uninstall and Re-install the Webcam Central Software.
Once uninstalled, click here to re-installed the software.
