No longer Administrator after SP2

I am the only user of my computer, I am logged on as the Administrator.  After installing SP 2 I could not manage the add ons, the error message saying that only an Administrator could.  I contacted Microsoft and their solution, after trying a number of things that did not work, was to create a new administrator account and see if that worked, whick it did.  Now, I am faced with changing everything over to the new account, microsoft's solution, since fixing the old account is "too difficult."  Well changing everything over to a new account also is not easy, does anyone have any quick solutions? I'm having exactly the same problem.  But I don't think it really has anything to do with being an Administrator because I can do everything else at Admin level.  I've even tried everything covered in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;883256 to no avail.  Creating a new account does indeed work, but it doesn't tell me what the original problem is.  I have 3 IE 6.0 add ons that I can't manage (they are disabled) after installing SP2 in my original account.

Other things I've tried are disabling both Microsoft's and Norton's firewalls, security features, and antivirus software (I use Norton's).  I've also unstalled and reinstalled possible problem software including Acrobat Reader (cause pdf.ocx is disabled), all of Norton's products (antivirus add on is disabled), Windows SP 2 and IE 6.0. I've made sure all updates have been installed. If anybody else is having this problem, or know what the problem is, I'd like to hear from them.
