I just got my new Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP. These is a note inside the package says that "Your new computer does not require an operating system CD or drivers CDs. Instead, if you ever need to reinstall your software, use one of the following methods...."

I am confused. Without an actual Windows XP CD, how can I creat new partitions in my harddrive so that I can have windows xp system in one drive, another operating system in the second drive and keep all my data in the third drive? Those restore tools provided by Dell do not sound convenient to me because once there is a problem, the restore tools will wipe out all my three partitions and I have to backup my data first and redo the partition again.

Is that just me not getting the actual operating sytem CD or it's a new dell's practice?

Any inputs about how to deal with this?

Thanks

You should call Dell and request the CDs. Do it before it's too late.

Yes, Dell has been doing that for awhile. (not including CD's with the computer)
