Norton Internet Security problem
My new 8400 came with a 90 day trial of Norton Internet Security. I like Norton Anti-Virus but this Internet Security portion is, when enabled, keeping me from getting on the Internet. Being a miser I would like to take advantage of every day of my free trial - it expires on December 15th. My cable company told me I should uninstall the Internet Security portion of the program. In add/remove programs it only shows up as Norton Internet Security; I tried to "change" it hoping the program(s) somehow could be separated but it just didn't happen. I could be wrong but believe my having this portion of the program disabled may be why my Norton Anti-Virus Live Updates are not happening. I have to go in and get them although that portion is "on". I have already purchased Norton Anti-Virus 2005 but don't want to install it until the other expires. (The miser in me!) Any ideas out there?
Thanks,
Bessie
Ok - I think I know why this is not being addressed by anyone. Many of you are not networked with another computer; I am. The router, a must for this connection, is a firewall. Norton Internet Security has a firewall and is not compatible with it. As I understand it a stand-alone internet connection would not be disturbed by Norton Internet Security. This is at least an explanation of what is happening.

I just sent my Nortons Internet Security back for a refund. Now using Zone Alarm and AVG like the above poster. Not a single problem like I have had with nortons. Seems Nortons cannot get there collective acts together to provide a trouble free software.

Thanks for all the input. I have now disabled the firewall in Internet Security and have no trouble getting on the Internet anymore. Unfortunately the program is causing a problem with my floppy drive, however. I do hope once I load Norton Antivirus 2005 those problems will stop but I am not counting on it. I have always had floppy drives on my computers and always had Norton Anti-virus; never effected my floppy before. Quite frankly I am not sure my floppy drive is not defective; at least I have nearly a year to fight it out with Dell. And you better believe I WILL FIGHT!

Doggie,
I have a router which is a firewall. The router connects my computer with my husbands computer creating a network. If I did not have that router/network situation the firewall portion of the Internet Security would not be a problem. All other facets of Norton Internet Security are enabled - only the firewall is disabled. My high-speed cable company told me this was my problem and obviously they are right. Of course the floppy drive situation is another issue!
Thanks,
Bessie

chaistt,
Thanks for the advice. I was just planning to install Norton Anti-Virus 2005 when my 90 days are up. Guess it might be a good idea to also download Zonealarm. I suppose I was counting on all the security the XP SP2 provides along with my router/firewall. Never can be too careful as long as there is no software conflict. So I'll give it a try.
