Norton Personal Firewall 2003 problems

I have a problem with Norton Personal Firewall 2003. When I start up my computer, it takes some time before the NPF icon appears in the system tray, and when it does, it says that NPF is disabled. Then, when I trie to right click it to get up the options menu, nothing happens. And also when i doubble click it nothing happens. No matter what way I trie to start NPF, nothing happens. But after about two-three minutes, suddenly the NPF window appears on the screen and the Security gets enabled.

Also, Internet doesn't work after NPF has loaded, with the security off. It works before NPF loads at all, but when it has loaded, it doesn't seem to work...

Anyone know a solution to this problem?

Nope, I do not have the XP firewall enabled...

Computer092,

Do you have XP's Internet Connection Firewall enabled? If more than one firewall is active, they conflict with one another and this may be the cause of your problem.

I had  similar problems with Norton Firewall 2002 a month ago. I could no longer use the internet nor move my cursor if I was using an internet enabled program. The cure was to remove all Norton programs and replace them with another brand.  I originally blaimed Spybot for the malfunction.  I am using a version of EZ Armor offered for free by Road Runner.  Zone Alarm has a free version or an inexpensive "pro" version.
Take that Norton!

Hmm...well, I had this problem after I installed MSN Plus. It's a third-party upgrade for Messenger. But it contained loads of spy-ware that I think did something to NPF...Norton Antivirus works fine, but NPF is just totaly destroyed..

This seems to be the same problem I had.  I doubt it was MSN Plus, but only a coincidence.  There is no way I know of to fix Norton's firewall.

Well, actually NPF works fine. It just takes about 5-6 minutes for it to start up. My computer starts up all normal and about 5-6 minutes after it finished loading, NPF starts up...

I had read there where some versions of the Plus that had viruses(trojan) in them. I don't know if it was from where they where downloaded or if it was a flaw in the Plus. Didn't read the whole article.

Hmm...well, I've scanned the computer for viruses and such things but didn't find anything. And I still have the problem with NPF. Now I've also found out that MSN can't log on before the firewall is running proper...
