ntuser.dat
I have been trying to delete index.dat files from my machine.I have sucessfuly removed most. The main info i am trying to delete is ie history and temp files.most of these dat files were only 16-32kb which is ther original size.Deleting these index files only did the same thing as deleting with control panel ie properties clear history, temp ie files and cookies.I downloaded win spy to see history files stored by windows and there are still 600 or more there, but even these files are only from the past 6 months. I have since looked in ntuser and opened with notepad and even though this is a compressed folder I have managed to see tons of urls that were visited years ago ,these are the history, pics, and everything else I would like to clear.((I relize that this file is my user file and everything in the registry hive in my profile but can this be safely deleted without messing up my computer??)) I now use fire fox as my browser which is apparrently safer and better for privacy.I dont understand why m$ insists on compromising peoples privacy by not making it easy to remove sensative data. I dont think the programs that say they remove index .dat files will clear the entries in the ntuser file either. Thanks for any imput to this problem
