NVIDIA driver updates for Vista computer

I Installed NVIDIA Media Shield Storage Driver (File R150193.EXE) on 10/19/07 and then saw where there was another NVIDIA one released on that same day (File R168769.exe).  Both were listed on the Dell support page and said they were critical for Vista (on Dell Support page).   Do I need to keep installing them?  I am really confused by all of this technical stuff.  All I want to do is make sure my computer is kept up to date.  That was much easier with Windows ME!

Hi Mimi_c
What is the model number of your PC ?
AT this point some people will say if it is not broke don,t fix it
but Vista is still kind of new how would you know if an update is better
who knows it may make it faster or fix something that you can not see !
I do all updates just for that reason {critical or urgent}
See Yea

Dells web site told me I needed to add three critical updates. For things I don't HAVE. If it ain't broke and the update doesn't say it fixes some horrible exploit I ignore them.

Regarding the video drivers. Is your display ok? Are you happy with the way your display looks? Are you having any problems with your display? Simple questions to ask yourself before honking more junk onto your drive.

Which version? There are 3 and all seem to address the same thing.
Dell released 4/30/07 (the urgent one)
                       Aug 07

Nvidia version (from their website)

Microsoft (released via Windows Update)

As long as you installed the Dell ones you are ok. If you install it 2 or 3 times you may have issues.
The one time I installed it again (by accident) I immediatly got the dreaded "screeching" from my X-Fi soundcard. I un-installed it and back to normal.

There are many issues with X-Fi cards and N-Force 4 mobos, may be related to the no operating system found issues with these boards (E521). FYI

Thanks, kpo127, for the reply.  Looking in my device manager, I see two of the 430/410 NVIDIA.  Does that mean I accidentally installed it twice, but I haven't noticed any problems. Thinking back, I believe I did install it twice.  There's a place to check to delete the driver software for the device when I right click "uninstall."   That would probably be OK to do, right...since there are 2 of them.   I have thought I might call Dell about the whole thing, but I rarely can understand the dialect.

E-521 Vista Home Premium

Installed nvidia media shield storage driver R150193 from Dell support page.  Started having problems after working with digital pictures.  Computer message when starting up - unexpected shutdown.  Chatted with Dell support and was advised to download R145363 using a link they gave me.  I was disconnected before doing it, so I connected with Dell Chat again and got another support person who downloaded some optional nvidia updates that I had ignored.  After that, there were other problems with a flash drive.  Even though I didn't have it connected, it showed in the tray.  The support person eventually said it was a problem with Vista that Microsoft would work on.  In the meantime, I wonder if the first support person had a better solution.  Now I don't know what to do.  For some reason the nvidia updates that the 2nd support person installed are still showing on windows update as if they never were installed.  In looking at the installed updates, the 2 installed via Dell support are showing multiple times.  What kind of problem is this????  I'm beginning to wonder if the whole OS needs to be re-installed.  Yuck!

For what it's worth, it's not Vista, when dealing with mediashield, once your system is running good, don't install anymore mediashield updates. I did one early on in windows update, and it tanked my 700 system, wiped out the raid. Never again, I get them running good, and don't mess with any mediashield updates.
Messing with your sata/raid drivers can be very dangerous.
