Operating System Error

Question

I have an old Dell Inspiron 2600 that operates with Windows XP with a system memory of 128 MB.  When I attempt to turn on the computer, I immediately receive a black screen and a message stating 'Error Loading Operating System.' When I enter the Setup Utility (control, alt, delete and F2 for system setup), I disable the quiet boot in order to display the system information during the boot process.  The computer loads as far as 'initializing mouse' and then displays the 'Error Loading Operating System' message.  The computer was working without error yesterday.  Any insight into what the problem may be would be greatly appreciated.   Justin

Thanks.  I saw this site earlier.  I'm not sure that this is applicable to my situation.  Can you explain?  I don't have much knowledge in this field.

In the link scroll down to 'Make sure that you are using the latest BIOS revision for your computer. Contact the computer manufacturer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest BIOS update that is available for the computer.'   Than scroll down to ' 243909 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243909/EN-US/) List of BIOS Manufacturer Web Sites Part 1'   Than click on dell.   Why not give system restore a try,you might luck out. :smileyhappy:

I don't know how you run XP on 128mb ram, amazing.   Try another mouse and try to boot.
