out of disk space error

hi, i have just rebooted my inspiron 6000, so started from scratch, and  am now trying to install all the dell cds that come with the computer, all have gone well except sonic digitalmedia/mydvd le combo.  Each time i hav e tried to install this program it comes up with an message - "out of disk space -- Volume 'C:\'; required space: 4294935566.00KB; avaliable Space: 79022080.00KB. Free some disk space and retry."

and according to the c drive there is ample space left on the hard drive, no to mention there is nothing but the basics on this computer right now!

please help me!! (my husband is not gonna like not being able to burn cds!)

Wow!  It's asking for over 4,000GB of hard drive space to carry on installation!  When it comes to burning CD (or DVD), there are also free alternatives:

angel_one,

Go to Start|Run, enter chkdsk /f and click OK. Reboot and let chkdsk run. See if that clears up the disk space problem.

A couple of points, 4294935566.00KB is approximately 1000 gigabytes not 4000 gigabytes.  Assuming that the number in the message is 4294935566.00 bytes not Kbytes, that number is suspiciously close to the maximum value for an unsigned 32 bit value.  This is reminiscent of problem in the middle 1990's when disk get above 4 gigabytes and size calculation were still being done in 32 bits.

I beg to differ :smileywink:

Or were you referring to a different calculation?
