Outlook Express 6; message rules

Hello,

Wish to apply a message rule for when "the subject line is blank",

There is no such option in the message rule configuration windows; is it possible to create such a rule?

Tks for assistance! AR

Am I in the wrong forum for questions about Outlook Express?

Why is the folder at left  of this thread closed as opposed to all other thread folders being opened?

Blues 8, You may use other message rules when the subject is blank such as the first option which blocks a certain address.  You may modify this rule to just block what you want.  Look and see what gets listed and modify it.   For an example, just block Yahoo.  You may also choose "block sender."  Look at the properties of the sender and you may be able to block the source.  Often, the sender spoofs or fakes his name and address so you can not block it.  Spam programs can block mail when it has no subject, but there is no subject message rule you can apply to a blank subject without unpredictable results.

blues-8,

This is the proper conference for your question. As paindoc noted there is no way to set a rule to block messages with no subject.

As far as the folder icons in the forum, the closed folder indicates that you have read all the posts in that thread. The open folder indicates that there are posts which have been added to the thread which you have not yet read.

Thank you to both of you for your replies;

It appears I'll have to live with the particular spam which arrives with no subject...As paindoc suggests, blocking will have some effect, although limited, due to senders address spoofing; I have tried a spam control program (mailwasher) but found that it interfered with my ISP (dial-up; would time out while retrieving mail).

Denny, tks for the explaining the folder question; I had not noticed its function...

Best wishes to both! AR
