Outlook Express 6 shutting down just after opening program

I have a relatively new Dell 410 and have downloaded IE7, when opening Outlook Express 6  I get an error message (can't remember what it is) and Outlook Express shuts down and goes back to Internet Explorer 7 browser. The next time I click on read mail it goes ahead and allows me to check my E-mail etc.    Any idea what could be causing this?

I am not understanding how you are attempting to open your email from your IE 7 browser.  I always have used an Outlook Express Icon in my desktop Quick Launch tray to open email.  My browser is closed at the time.   I know the earlier versions of Internet Explorer had an obvious way to open mail from within but I can't seem to find it in IE 7.  I don't personally need to know but am courious how you are doing it.

I see you are new to this forum.  Welcome!  Please don't get discouraged by lack of response - except for me.  (You responded to me!)  I have had a lot of success through the years getting very good answers to my questions.  The Dell Community is a good place to hang out and learn by viewing other questions of interest to you.  There are MANY very computer savy users helping users here.

Enjoy your 410.  My sister purchased one last month and I set it up for her.  Real neat!

Good luck,

After   1  1/2 hours on the chat support last night, this evening I received a telephone call from Dell technical support.  A   ~very~  nice chap...  in 15 minutes he had me UNinstall I.E. 7.0 and REinstall it...   he told me that they had received several complaints concerning I.E. 7.0

On I.E. 7.0 on the tool bar there is a button "read mail" I click on that to get Outlook Express 6.0....  NOT   "Outlook"

It has been very frustrating with chat support; but my 410 meets and exceeds my expectations...  I truly believe Dell makes the BEST computer on the market!!

Stan,

I'm glad you got some help from Dell.  Their on-line support isn't what it once was but they try.  Obviously he helped.  They are in India now - or most of them anyhow.
I was not speaking of Outlook; never used it.  Now that you tell me I see where the read mail is in IE 7.  I just didn't have it selected in my options.
I agree Dell is the best.  I am on my second and it is 2 years old now but has a lot of years left on it.  And, like I said, don't give up on "Chat Support" as you call it.   I find you have to give as much information as possible on the subject you are asking about.  Sometimes you also need to give the specs of what type of computer you are using, the operating system, etc.  You did that but as I said - don't get discouraged.  Keep the forum in your favorites.  It really is here when you need it.  Just not this time for you.  I'll bet it will be next time!
