Mary - The Regional & Language Settings  indicate english and   I unchecked all other languages under the advanced tab.  Still no luck, OE still uses the french dictionary.  It must be a conspiacy!

Correct me if I am wrong. OE dosen't have a spell check.

You need Microsoft Outlook installed to have the spell check option.

Open Microsoft Outlook, click tools, options.

On the spelling tab make sure English is the language in the box.

Hope this helps.

Okay, you're wrong. Outlook Express uses the dictionary in Word (or a couple of other Microsoft Office applications) to provide a spelling check function. billff is doing all the correct things by selecting English on the spelling tab of Tools|Options but that selection is not retained.

Thanks.  Actually I use Spybot from time to time.  It had an update last week so I downloaded it and ran the program.  Still no change in the OE dictionary.

I'll think I'll continue to try and find a fix for the spellcheck before downloading a different one.
