Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Sounds Tab. Scroll down the list to "New Mail Notification" and be sure there is a sound selected and test it there to be sure it's functioning. OK out when finished.
Sort of, I disabled the PC-cillin toolbar in outlook express (you disable it from PC-cillin). That resolved the notification problem. Since my employer uses Symantec anti-virus software and it is licensed to employees for home use I ended up just uninstalling PC-cillin and using Symantec.
I suspected PC-cillin, it has given me a bunch of problems so far, but was unable to figure out how to disable it from affecting my Outlook Express. I appreciate your input!
My first post. I too have the same problem with my Inspiron E-1505, using IE 7, OE and MC 2005. The sound works when using the Preview/test button but not when new mail arrives. I opened my PC-cillin/Mail/Anti-Spam but there was NO, Deactivate the Anti-Spam Toolbar, to click on. However, with OE opened, under the regular Toolbar there is a, Trend Micro Anti-Spam toolbar with 5 sub headings. When I clicked on Trend Micro I then clicked on, Disable Anti-Spam Toolbar, it did NOT permit the sound to play when new mail arrived. I was so hoping that PC-cillin was the gremlin in my machine but I guess not.
Good news: I recently switched to, bellsouth.net, with DSL Lite and their suite package of security. The install of the security pkg.(anti-virus, spyware & firewall) uninstalled my Trend Micro PC-cillin Anti-Virus program. NOW, I finally have sound when new mail arrives. The problem of no sound must have been due to, TM PC-cillin Anti-Virus program. John :smileyvery-happy:

The ICON doesn't even show up in the task tray when new mail comes in.
Thanks,
