Outlook problem-Outgoing e-mails are stuck in outbox

Microsoft Help just tells me to make sure I have checked "Send e-mails immediately."  But that has always been checked.  This problem arose after I messed around with the Make Appointments/Meetings options.  I never sent the message however, so don't see how that could have affected my Send function.  In the bottom of my screen is an icon I haven't seen before, but could not identify through Help.  It looks a little like a TV screen with a red leg.

Many thanks.

It's possible that your email server is having problem.
Try sending a test message to yourself, but you might want to delete the other email that is waiting to be sent first.

goodluck!

Try this--File, Work Offline, Delete the item that's stuck in the Outbox. BTW, you should not have Send Immediately checked. Instead schedule a Send-receive every 10 minutes. Nothing less than that or the servers can't reset properly. Schedule is under Mail Setup, Send/receive button.

Frizzy -- Did you ever find a good solution to this problem?  I have the same thing. --JG322

Thanks to all who have replied.  I was able to delete the stuck message.  I find that in addition to hitting SEND, I must now also hit SEND/RECEIVE on the tool bar; also I'm still getting error messages and the whole system is very slow.  I have been out of town for 10 days, so unable to contact my server.  In my absence, e-mails have continued to come in, right up to today, including some saying their messages are getting bounced back.  Can't figure that one!  I have a lot of photos saved in my picture file and plan to save them to a disk and then delete in the hopes that might address some of the problem.
