paging file

I keep getting the message that I have no paging file.  I follow the instrucitons for creating a large paging file and restart the computer.  However, after this the paging file remains zero.  The specifications I entered for a large file are shown, but the actual file remains zero.  How can I fix this?

shushu,

You really need to provide more information such as what model system and what hardware/software have been added.  Also, when exactly do you get that message.

Do you have hard drive space?

Can you see the pagefile.sys in c:\ ?

To see it you might need to uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" box in windows explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View Tab

You could try  System Properties >Advanced >Performance , Settings  >Advanced ,Virtual Memory ,Change

& tick "System managed size"  (don't know if you need to click the "Set" button)

I'm having the same problem re: setting the paging file size.  I've been through the steps many times, set it to custom size, tried "system managed" and it never seems to work.  I still end up with a value of zero in the "currently allocated" field in the virtual memory change tab.  I've contacted Dell support and they keep directing me to various documents about configuration paging files.  None of them help (in that following the instructions don't seem to cure the problem).  I've also asked whether I should be able to see paging.sys on the hard drive.  I realize it is a hidden file, so I've searched hidden files etc.  I don't see it.

Anyone with useful info, please respond.

Lansatac,

Have you contacted Dell about this?  I have, several times and I keep getting the same old stuff ... read this document, follow these steps.  Nothing they suggest makes any difference.  The last set of instructions was to re-install XP, which caused several other problems.  I'm getting quite disgusted with the support Dell offers for home users.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR PAGING FILE GO TO SETTING -THEN CONTROL PANEL, THEN CLICK SYSTEMS, THEN CLICK ON THE ADVANCE TAB, THEN CLICK PERFORMANCE BOX.THEN CLICK SETTINGS, CLICK ADVANCE, THEN AT BOTTOM IS VIRTUAL MEMORY CLICK CHANGE AND THERE IS YOUR PAGING FILE. IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE INFOMATION YOU NEED TO FILL IT OUT . LIKE HOW MUCH MB YOU HAVE IN YOUR MENORY AND ALL THAT STUFF. IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO FIND IT

LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND IT................FAKINS4063@AOL.COM
