Partition Missing During Clean Install

Question

I'm doing an XP Clean Install on an XPS system, but cannot delete partition because it doesn't appear on list.  How do I get it to appear so I can delete it and complete the clean install?  After I reconnect my external backup and try again, that shows up, but still no hard drive. Help. Marc Seror <ADMIN NOTE : Email id removed per privacy policy>
