password and safe mode

xp sp2  Dell 4100;
I can boot into safe mode if I remove the administrator password I use to prevent others from using the pc. I cannot use safe mode when I use a password for the computer.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Thank you

XP Home????

when you boot into safe mode in XP Home it is the true Administrator account and no password is set by default, so leave it blank and hit enter.

I believe safe mode doesn't require a password.

xp sp2 Dell 4600         I have a password
I boot to safe mode and follow all the prompts to the blue screen that asks for password
 **as you suggestd, I select the computer name not administrator and hit enter, not typing the password in.
No matter whether I select admin or the pc name  or no matter wheter I enter password or not,
The screen freezes as in I cannot move the mouse.
How do I gain accress to safe mode while maintaining a password? - or should I remove the password like I have been doing to get into safe mode?

Try creating another user account with admin priv, set a password, then try to enter safe mode using that account.

On my XP the Administrator password is set during installation.  I do not see a user for the administer when I am logged on as a user.  To get to Safe Mode I have to use the password that was established for the administrator during the OS XP installation.

Do you know how I can get to view that password you refer to during installation?

I just wanted the members to know M.S. has acknowledged a problem and receating an admin with a new password was a suggested solution.

Try Administrator as the undefined administrator password.
