PC Diagnostic Software
How effective is software such as RegistryMechanic or PC PowerScan?
They claim such software keep the PC error free and running smoothly.
Do they really perform as the claim is made?
It is hard to see an objective and rather technical opinion as for the necessity of the software.

I don't know those 2 programs in particular - but in general I have found diagnostic software to be worse than useless.
I was gullible enough to buy such software when I was a newbie to computers.

Not only do I agree with scoobydooby but I would like to add, they in some cases they are dangerous to use. They typically generate false positive, to create a need, as an example they report bad links in the registry, which do exist, but are of no consequence. What I am going to say now is not address to the original posters but to all readers of this thread. To use the tools correctly, if you were to use them at all, you would need such knowledge that you would not have to ask the question.
