pcmcia.sys v5.1.2600.17

Hello, my PCMCIA devices are not recognised by card reader installed in my desktop. All cards are identified as PCMCIA MTD-0002...?! Aparently pcmcia.sys with attached attributes is a solution for my problem.

I would appreciate if someone could send the driver to me.

Markok,

Need to now the manufacturer and model of your PCMCIA card reader. The Windows XP generic driver you listed will most likely work. Somewhere on the adapter card should be a number that we can use to track down an updated driver. Did this card ever work?

Hello Tony, card reader worked w/o problems for quite some time... I recently upgraded my boot HDD (OS remained the same i.e. Win XP Prof. SP2) and since then I have been experiencing problems. Attached is the link to the manufacturer site for my card reader.

I would realy appreciate your advice!

Markok,
When you upgraded your HDD did you do a clean install?  If so, that may be the problem.  The drivers I see on the Actiontec web site for the PC750 cardbus are for Win98/Me and WinNT4 SP3. I found this compatibility comment at an Actiontec PC750 vendor's site:

Operating System Compatibility: DOS, Windows 3.1X,  95, 98, 2000, NT, Me & XP. (Not hot-swappable under Windows NT.)
PC750 works under Win Me if you use the WinRoute driver.
For Win XP, it will load the native Win XP driver for it. Most of the PCs with updated BOIS will work.

Note the workaround for WinXP and XP Pro by Pressing F7 (not F6) at the F6 prompt for drivers when installing XP Pro SP2.

Theoretically, your card should work without a hitch.  If you did a clean install, you might have to do a reinstall with the F7 trick noted by Microsoft above.

Hello Tony,

while upgrading my boot HDD I did not do clean install. I have simply transfered all the files from old HDD onto new HDD using Seagate´s utility. All devices apart from PCMCIA card reader attached to my desktop have been working w/o problems after the upgrade. I have spent many hours so far trying to fix this problem... I really want to use all PCMCIA cards from my notebook on desktop too. Aparently pcmcia.sys v5.1.2600.17 is a solution to my problem?!

Thank you Tony.

Marko,

The pcmcia.sys is a Windows XP system file.  It should be located in your C:\Windows\System32\ folder AND in your C:\Windows\System32\dllcache\ folder.  Dllcache folder is a hidden system folder.  Original for your Windows version should be in C:\I386 folder or on your Windows XP CD in \I386 folder.  If your system shows the card in Device Manager, uninstall it.  Shut down your computer. Remove card.  Reboot.  Shut down again. Reinsert card. Reboot. System should find and install Windows XP driver. Current SP2 version is 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158). If you have installed any driver software for the card reader you need to uninstall it first.

If your system is running OK, the Seagate clone did its thing correctly. The system I'm running (Seagate 80Gb) was originally cloned from a Maxtor 40Gb with Ghost 7.5. I periodically clone it to a backup 80Gb Seagate with the Seagate utility and that clone works fine also.

Grandma always told me to look for simple things first.  Have you tried putting card in a different slot? Some PCI cards are peculiar about Slot 1 and some aren't.

Hello Tony, as per your instructions... I just uninstalled driver, removed the card, rebooted, inserted the card again... unfortunately problem is still there.
The reason i wrote pcmcia.sys v5.1.2600.42 driver may be a solution for me is

Any chance to get this driver somewhere?
